In order to further enable our youth to take back our culture for Christ, to live with one another in love, and because we believe that love in the trifles, the small things in life, are important, Providence Classical Academy is pleased to announce our first annual Social Graces class.
Classes will meet Friday, September 3, 10, 17, 24 and October 1 at PCA, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Our capstone event will be held on Thursday evening, October 7th, from approximately 5-11 p.m., enjoying hor d’oeuvres at the Martin home in the company of civic personalities, dinner at an upscale local restaurant, and an ACU theatre musical production, The Titanic.
Topics addressed will include:
Gracious behavior in a multitude of settings, both formal and informal
Table etiquette
General personal grooming
“Netiquette”
Expressions of gratitude: formal and informal
Interactions with others : introductions, entering and exiting,
analyzing whether one’s behavior is “glam,” “spam,” or “ham” and eliminating the latter two
Social Graces: What to Do, and Why, will include outside assignments and reading on etiquette and all students will receive a pass/fail grade. If your student is unable to attend all five classes prior to the capstone event we recommend that he take it at another time. This is not an event where your student will ask another student to attend as his date. The class will be a group. However, male students will be assigned female students in order to escort them (in and out of vehicles, at the table, see to their needs) and give them opportunities to care for a certain young lady (or ladies) for the evening. This class is open to 9th and 10th grade students in addition to PCA’s full time students. Space is limited.
